iPhone 11 Pro Max/ X/XR/ XS Max Ringer volume very low for incoming call : iOS 14 [FIX]

Apple have released it one of most powerful featured iPhone XR,XS Max, X recently with very new technology in it like FaceId, OLED scree etc. Some of the technologies offered by Apple in this iphone XR, X  is quite innovative and new in the market. The iphone X is made more intelligent and made to understand your habits  and requirements and act according to that. However with the new iPhone X some users are facing issue with Ringer volume when a call comes. The issue happens like, sometimes the iPhone X ringer volume goes very low and not able to increase the volume so it stays louder.

iPhone XR, XS Max low ringer volume

Further when user receives a call the volume is low and goes even lower on subsequent rings. Many users reports it as fluctuations in volume when iPhone rings. So while call is ringing the iPhone, the user try to attempt to use the volume up button to increase the Ringer volume it increases the Volume for the sound but NOT the Ringer. It may appear to be issue when ringer volume is not working in iPhone X.

So what is the issue with iPhone XR, XR , XS Max ringer volume : iOS 12 / 12.2

Actually this is not an issue with iPhone X or XR but it’s a feature to avoid unnecessary sound created by phones when not needed.
iPhone X lowers ringer volume if its face detection algorithm determines that you’re looking at the phone, in which case an audio cue is no longer needed. However since it is based upon the FaceID feature , iPhone X should ring normally when the screen is off, or you’re not looking at it.

In case you don’t like iPhone X auto controlling ringer volume, to turn off this feature you have to go into Accessibility and turn off the bottom "Attention" setting. Then, the ringer will set to max volume and whenever you receives any call the iPhone X will ring at same sound level without ant fluctuations.
(STEP: Go To settings ->press on face Iid&passcode->then close the button:(Attention Aware Features.) Once you have done that the ringtone should not lower).

To fix low ringer volume on iPhone XR and XS Max:

Go to Settings, scroll to Face ID & Passcode, then scroll to where it says Attention Aware Features. This is automatically on. Switch it to off. Try getting a call after changing this setting.

Clearly Apple is coming up with great innovation in the market which will take some times for users to get comfortable with.
Hopefully this article helped to fix iPhone X low ring sound issue. Please let me know in comments. Thanks.

OMG! Was that the cause of it???!!! No FACE ID was set-up though. I was at the shop, about to buy the iPhone X. Tested the phone with an incoming call but it wouldn't ring (make sound). Both the seller and myself thought it was a faulty unit. It was the last unit and I walked away not buying! Darn!

I thought my iPhone x was faulty too. I want to turn off the auto controlling ringer volume but I can't find the "attention" setting in accessibility. Please help me find it. Thank you.

thanks for the fix...very annoying feature...wish it would have asked if I wanted this feature on or off during set up

NOCTOC, Goto Settings > General > Accessability > FaceID & Attention

Thank you for the solution, OP. Now I'll just have to wait for the next call to verify.

Thank you. Neither Verizon nor AppleCare techs picked this up and recommended replacing the phone while in warranty. Your post cleared it up much more simply.

This worked. I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple support. They seem completely clueless that this is a problem and that there are actually forms onnline addressing it. Such an unnecessary "feature". I can envision some engineering geeks sitting around trying to think of new stuff to shove in there. Surely there is a marketing person with enough sense to know that this kind of stuff is not wanted or needed?

What could be the possible rationale for this stupidity? You need the phone to keep ringing loudly when you are _not_ looking at it, not when you are. In addition, having to turn off "attention aware" to solve the problem that shouldn't exist in the first place, I assume you will lose the nice feature of SMS text and calendar alerts not displaying details until you look. Breathtakingly stupid.

Thank you!Been living with this annoyance for months. Must say, I would have been fine with it if I had known why it was lowering the volume rather than thinking the phone had a problem.

Thanks, it works perfectly now. I too thought I had a faulty iPhone x. So glad I went to your site. The other sites don't tell you about this easy fix. You are awesome.

Thanks. Glad I ran into this -- it seems a lot of people including Verizon store staff don't know about this "feature" and how it almost always malfunctions. The phone I was working with, like most of the others in the comments here, was muting the ring all the time, whether or not the owner was holding it. Buried in a purse, it was never loud enough to hear. This seems to have fixed it.
