iPhone XR users are complaining about issue with LTE cellular network. Ever
since the purchase of new iPhone XR or XS there is issue
with iPhone XR on Cellular Connectivity. The
iPhone XR will suddenly stop data and call connectivity and if you are in middle
of call you may get “call failure”
message on the screen. Surprisingly this happens even when , even the cellular
reception bar is showing full signal.

The issue
happens at any instance of time and You won’t have any idea that iPhone has lost
connectivity and when you will come to use the device, then you may see there
is no data, and calls can't be made or
received on iPhone XR with iOS 12. You won’t be able to receive any network
LTE signals and due to this all message call fails, A quick fix for this is to switch
the flight mode on then switch it back to regain the signals. The issue is frequent
for the users as it happens to lose LTE/4G
signal 2-3 times in a day and users are forced to toggle to Airplane mode
to fix the issue.

When checked
with Apple customer support, Apple support also acknowledged there is an issue
with iPhone XR signal reception on cellular network. Some of the users got a replacement
for new iPhone but the issue still persists with new phones. It seems more like
a software bug in iOS 12 causing signal drop in iPhone XR and XS. The issue is
really annoying as resetting or restoring the iPhone won’t help much and there
does not seems to be a direct way to fix the issue. The iPhone XR poor call
quality and connection drop issue still exists in latest iOS 12.1.4.
Even if
you are able to try call someone from new iPhone XR has the call quality
problem. Other people tells that they can’t understand and the sound garbled/muffled
and that the voice fades in and out.
One
iPhone users reported as :
“Same issue here, XR on Verizon, I can hear the person
just fine but they report quality issues on their end. Phone is getting
returned. “
Apple seem to be aware of the issue and working on the
fix; the iOS 12.1 release notes however mentions about fixing the poor LTE
issue in iPhone XR, XS, XS Max. According to Apple's release
notes for iOS 12.1 , Improves cellular connectivity for iPhone XS, iPhone XS
Max, and iPhone XR
But it
seems that Apple still needs to look into it to make it more stable network
with LTE
How to fix iPhone XR poor call quality/muffled/
fading voice/ signal drop on iOS 12.1 :
Fix 1: Check Cellular data option
Go to Setting->”cellular data option”->Check out
LTE settings->Make sure it is set to data only. It has fixed issue for many
users.
Fix 2: Turn off Noise cancellation

iPhones including XR offers noise cancellation during
a call. Which is a good feature for better sound quality but many a times it is
noticed that this setting sometimes cancel actual voice along with noise. Turn the
feature off and check if it fixes muffled or garbled sound issue in iPhone XR.
Fix 3 : Manually select the
network
Manually
select the proper Network selection (Settings / Cellular / Network
Selection)
- there
is option for automatic selection or manual, select to manual and choose your
network provider.
-Reset
settings for Cellular data network (Settings / Cellular / Cellular
Data Network)
Fix 4: Upgrade the iOS
Apple is aware of iPhone XR and XS losing signal and poor
voice quality issue. They should be sooner
releasing a permanent fix for the issue and you should be upgrading the iPhone
to latest iOS 12 version to get a fix.
