iPhone
XS/XR users are facing issue with CarPlay that apps like Google Play Music,
Overcast and Pocket casts, Spotify are going black screen randomly. All the
apps are now showing just a black screen when in use on CarPlay. The issue is
seen across different cars with different apps, but this seems to started with
iOS 12. Seems like some bug in iOS 12 is causing the Carplay shown app as black
screen.

Restarting
the phone usually fixes the issue but this is very annoying to restart the
iPhone every time you face this issue. Some of the iPhone users contacted Apple
to inquire about the issue but there are no updates from the Apple support as
well. The latest iOS 12.1.3 is also having the issue.
There
are some workaround to fix Carplay black screen issue that you may try to
overcome it. Below are the listed fixes:
How
to fix music, google, spotify app showing black screen on Carplay on iOS 12/
iPhone XS Max, XR, 8, 7, 6s plus:
Workaround
1:
What normally
work to troubleshoot is to unplug iphone, quit the Spotify and connect it back.
This will fix black screen issue on CarPlay
Workaround
2:
The
other way you can try is to to see what song is playing on Spotify is to switch
out of CarPlay mode and go into the NEXT mode on my pioneer.
Workaround
3 :
Leave
the app playing, but just back out to the main radio control screen. The
touchscreen controls on that screen still control the CarPlay apps. The app
will come back from black screen, hopefully.
Workaround
4:
A fix
for the issue is to uninstall Google Music( or the App) from my iphone and reinstall, and since having
done this I've had no problems with the app producing a blank screen on the car
display. Unfortunately this could make you lose all downloaded music, but small
inconvenience for resolving the issue. It may be something in the music
database on the phone that is triggering the issue.
