Many
iPhone 6s, 6 plus user are facing issue that the Facetime Icon became grayed
out in their iPhone message app. The issue started all of a sudden without
doing any changes in the iPhone and all the contacts when opened in message app
shows grayed out icons. Even when it is sure that the other users have iPhone
with them, still the FaceTime icon is shown as grayed out for many iPhone users
in iOS 12.

For
many iPhone 6s user, iPhone did threw a message showing that there was a
FaceTime error. It is the message app
from where the users is unable to make a call as the FaceTime icon is not
working and grayed out, but if you directly access FaceTime, all call from the
Facetime are working just normal. , Facetime option when you click on the
contact at the top is greyed out, if you go into info you can FaceTine from there. Even on the latest iOS 12.4 you can this issue
on iPhone 6s and iPad as well.
Some reports
says that this is Apple intentional change as Your device can’t use the camera
feature for Group FaceTime therefore they greyed it out.
One
user reported this as
“Since updating my iPad Air to 12.1.2 in
the beginning of January, I have not been able to make FaceTime video calls
from the messages app as well. Like everyone else, I can make FaceTime audio
calls from the messages app and the FaceTime App works just fine. I was happy
when I saw the 12.1.3 update notification today. However, this update has not
resolved this issue for me.”

1: Use info to FaceTime
As
mentioned if you tap on info option on the contact details in the message app.
Some user state that they are able to make FaceTime call from there.

You can
use Siri anytime to make FaceTime call to any contact. This is a good and quick

3: Remove country code
This
happens when the user added their number including the country code. I added
the country code to one of my contacts and it's now un-greyed.
For
example, say the whole number is

(country code) 77 (area code) 9 8023 4322
This
specific contact in Facetime was listed that way:
9 8023
4322
That's
why the icons were greyed out... once I edited the contact details the issue
was fixed.
