The iOS 13.4 update is creating many users black screen of death issue. Whenever the iPhone X/7/11 Pro Max user tries to play a video on safari or YouTube the screen turns black and freezes. iPhone screen going black is also known as black screen of death and has been reported with earlier iOS version as well. The black screen issue in iOS 13.2/13.4 has occurred again and in this state the iPhone freezes up and nothing works like WIFI, side buttons etc.
When black screen issue appears in iOS iPhone 13.4 :
The black screen issue in iPhone is usually a software bug and should be addressed by Apple for a permanent fix. The issue can occur at different places in iPhone like while playing video, playing video game, trying to open email from lock screen etc. The issue is not very specific like one use reported as “whenever i play videos on safari is just black but there is sound that can be heard.. tried playing videos on the youtube App and it works but i playing youtube videos on the safari and yep its black screen playback alright with sound”. The issue seems to be across different iPhone version and the latest iPhone 11 Pro Max on iOS 13.4 is also reported with black screen bug in iPhone.

The issue of screen going out black can occur due to system failure (crash) or hardware fault which eventually triggered complete black screen. The iPhone screen can go black randomly as well. The issue can appear even when you launch some app. Some user find the black screen issue in iPhone X/11 Pro Max / iOS 13 occur with Siri or voice commands. This is not related to specific device or hardware of iPhone. Usually the black screen bug in iPhone are related to iOS update and fixed by Apple in next releases. In rare cases black screen can be hardware failure, specially after doing some repair work in iPhone X. What to do as Troubleshooting if my iPhone is stuck in black screen of death :
When iPhone is stuck in black screen Ask Siri using ‘Hey Siri’ command to turn up your iPhone’s brightness with “Hey Siri, turn up the brightness” or call someone.
Of screen rotation is on try to change your screen’s orientation by physically turning your iPhone.
Try to Force restart your device.
Connect your device to a computer that has iTunes (Windows and macOS Mojave and below) or Finder app (macOS Catalina+) and launch recovery mode.

How to fix iPhone X/XR/XS MAX/ Iphone 11 Pro Max/ 7/ 8 /6s Plus/ stuck in black screen after iOS update (iOS 13.4):
Fix 1: Restart your device/iPhone/iPad
One of easiest yet effective way to fix software issue is to hard restart the iPhone. Sometimes there are some glitches in iOS which may cause screen black out issue. In such cases you should consider hard rebooting your iPhone. To do that (Hard reboot varies across models.):
iPhone 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 11, X,8,8 Plus
Quickly Press and Release Volume up button.
Then, Quickly Press and Release Volume Down button.
After that Only Press and Hold Side/Power button until you see the Apple logo on the iPhone screen. Wait for 5 seconds and try to turn on using the side/Power button [Press and Hold button].
For iPhone 7/7 Plus: Press and Hold Side/Power button and Volume down button until iPhone see the apple logo on the screen. Use the Side button to turn on again.
For iPhone 6S/6S Plus, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 5S: Press and Hold Side/Power button and Home button until Apple logo on the screen, Wait after few seconds to turn on using the side button.
Fix 2 Ask Siri to do some command, when iPhone stuck at black screen.
If your iPhone is stuck in black screen of death and you are not able to do anything from it, try to wake up Siri using ‘Hey Siri’ and give some commands to execute like call somebody, lower the brightness etc, close all apps. This might help to get back to working screen.
Fix 3: Uninstall unnecessary apps
Sometime a badly coded app can cause iOS to break and cause black screen of death in such cases we recommend to identify such apps (by opening all one by one) and uninstall it from your iPhone.
Fix 4: Use recovery mode to fix the black screen issue on your iPhone using iTunes.
Recovery mode is used to restore iPhone without affecting your data on your iPhone. To do so you need to connect your iPhone to iTune using mac or PC.
Connect your iPhone to the computer using USB/lightning cable. Then allow iTunes to sync with your iPhone and backup files(recommended). Once the backup is secured, follow these steps to put your iPhone 11 Pro max/ X in recovery mode and then restore iOS in iTunes:
· Ensure iTunes is updated to latest version.
· Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
· Press and release the Volume Down button quickly.
· Then press and hold the Power/Side button once prompted with Connect to iTunes screen. Do not release the button when Apple logo appears as you will need to enter recovery mode state.
· Once you enter the recovery mode, you’ll see either Update or Restore option.
· Select Restore if you want to reinstall and download iOS on your device without erasing data.

Do not disconnect your phone and keep it connected until the entire restore process is finished.
Fix 5: Perform a DFU mode restore on your iPhone and fix black screen of death.

DFU is most in-depth type of restore on iPhone, it is Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode restore. This is a state where it allows your device to communicate with iTunes even when bootloader is not sync or activated. This will fix any faulty updates. Please follow these steps for DFU Restore:
· Connect your iPhone 11 Pro Max , open iTunes on your mac/ computer.
· Press and quickly release the Volume up button.
· Press and quickly release the Volume down button.
· Press and hold the Side/Power button until the screen goes black.
· After the screen turns black, press and hold the Volume down button while keep holding down the Power/Side button.
· Wait for 5 seconds then release the Power/Side button but keep holding the Volume down button until your iPhone XS shows up in iTunes.
· Release the Volume down button once you see your iPhone in iTunes then follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to start restoring your iPhone through iTunes.
To exit DFU mode, you can perform a force restart on your iPhone X and follow the on-screen instructions to use it again.
Fix 6: Ensure your phone battery is working fine.
A faulty battery in your iPhone can give you lots of trouble and is also can cause black screen of death on your iPhone. If you are unable to verify your battery health because you cannot get your iPhone to get beyond that black screen, contact Apple Support and ask them to run diagnostics on your iPhone. Let’s find out if it’s likely a battery issue before proceeding.
Fix 7: What to do if iPhone black screen issue is due to hardware issue
Even after trying above steps your iPhone x/11 Pro Max screen goes black randomly and nothing else works and your iPhone is within the one year manufacture warranty.
