The latest iPhone 12 now comes with 5G compatibility. It’s really good to see that iPhones are now future / latest technology ready but 5G is yet to be released in many countries which are still operating on 4G network.
iPhone 12 does supports 4G networks but many users who are still using 3G network due to unavailability of strong 4G connection or no 4G connection at all. Some user switch to 3G service for longer battery life. This does not seems to be a SIM network issue as the same SIM in iPhone X will show 3G option, and works well.

It is disappointing for many iPhone users to note that iPhone 12 do not have option to manually switch to 3G and 2G network.
So is it true that that iPhone 12 pro does not support 3G networks.
Please note that the iPhone 12 does supports 3G and 2G, but you won’t get any manual setting/ switch to force it to use these obsolete network protocols. But if there is no 4G or 5G available the iPhone 12 will use 3G.
Also some of the carrier providers are now removing support for 3G. Most carriers are disabling their 3G networks to allow the bandwidth to be used for 4G (LTE)
How to turn on 3G on iPhone 12 Pro

Hence network provider are in process of removing 3G support. The reason they are shutting down 3G is to expand 4G/LTE coverage, because LTE uses the same frequencies as 3G. So for every 3G channel on a tower there is one less LTE channel that the tower can support. And for every 3G channel they shut down they can add an LTE channel
