In the latest iPhone 11/12 Pro Max, XR with iOS 14 many iphone users are facing issue that the volume of the iPhone keeps lowering on its own all the way down to zero. Pressing the 'volume up' button on the side of the phone shows the volume at max, but when viewed in 'settings/sound and haptics' it shows all the way down.
Even when tried to change the
volume in sound and hepatics settings it will work for some times only and then
again get lowered down automatically to zero. This is very annoying issue is
iPhone is getting silent and users are missing calls and message alert.

But Why Apple iPhone is lowering down sound level to zero on its own:
Actually this is a feature by
Apple not an issue. If you are using the iPhone at fill volume level then apple
detects it as threat to your hearing capabilities and this reduces the volume
on its own. This makes more sense if iPhone users only uses earphone to listen
music/calls etc. You may be seeing notification on lock screen about High volume warning on your iPhone. But it seems like Apple has done this for all kind of Bluetooth
devices.
A simple solution for this is
to Apple need to detect when it’s connected to car speakers, or say a jambox or
other wireless speaker or when it is connected to earphones. A permanent
fix for the issue is expected from apple in upcoming releases but for now there
is one workaround mentioned below that you should try.
Workaround: lower the volume
If you keep the volume of
iPhone at max level then you might be getting into this issue where iPhone
itself will keep on lowering the volume to zero. One easy workaround as
suggested by Apple support team is to lower the volume yourself rather then
iPhone itself making it to zero. It means you should not keep the volume at max
level rather at any other level.
Hope this helps.
