How to Fix Face ID after Water damage : iPhone 13/12 Pro Max?


FaceId is very good and reliable feature of iphone and it works smoothly since the launch. But many iPhone X,11,XS,XR  users are reporting issue with the FaceID that after the iPhone got water damaged the FaceID is not working on iPhone. FaceId gives message ‘A Problem was detected with TrueDepth camera. Face id has been disabled.


How to fix Water damaged Face Id on iPhone X



Even on user reported that when iPhone X suffered water splash the Face ID is not working after that, which makes the FaceId to be very sensitive to water exposure. 


When iPhone was left out to rinse down for like 2 days the other feature of iPhone starts to work normally but FaceId is not working at all. When try to use face ID it tells the FaceId is  was not available with message  :” A problem was detected with the truedepth camera. Faceid has been disabled.”

Why FaceId is not working after Water Damage on iPhone


The FaceId is secure component in the iPhone. If the iPhone has came in contact of the water the there are good chances that the main circuits of the Face ID are exposed to water. Once water damaged or exposed to a relatively humid environment, there might be electricity leakage or short-circuit problem that can result in Face ID failure.


Is Water Damage iPhone covered in Warranty :


Unfortunately if your iPhone gets damaged due to water than the iPhone is not covered under the one year warranty program. 


How to repair a broken Face Id in the iPhone :


Water damaged can cause lots of problems with corrosion. The problem with the iPhone X is that the FaceID is matched to the logic board so it is impossible to replace components and make the FaceID work again.And the detailed repair process, Face ID parts are complicated and difficult to repair.  A simple replacement cannot fix the problem, not to mention that most Face ID parts are paired to the logic board. You need professional help.


Should I try on my own to fix Face Id/ or local repair shop: 


We will not recommend to use try fixing FaceId in your own as  the components for Face ID are considered security devices. Like Touch ID, they're "paired" to the logic board. If they were damaged, simply replacing them wouldn't fix it since the components would need to be reset to the logic board, and only Apple provides the security equipment to do that.

So to fix FaceId related issue in iPhone please contact Apple Customer Care and get it fixed from Apple only.
