iPhone 12 battery drain with MagSafe Charger |
After getting a new MagSafe charger
for the iPhone 12 Pro Max and try to use it while the indicator came on like it
was charging, the battery was slowly draining as if it wasn’t on a charger.
The iPhone is charging fine with the normal charger, and no issues with a
regular lighting charger, USB A or USB C. the iPhone charges fine withour
MafSafe or if placed on a regular Qi charger. But iPhone battery drain happenesfor
with multiple mag safe “pucks”, the MagSafe draining battery. The issue of quick battery drain is also
reported with iPhone 12 mini - 20w USB-C. The drop in battery is very fast and
iPhone drops more than 30% battery in less than 2 hours with MegSafe charger.
Why Magsafe is draining iPhone battery |
This seems to be issue in the iPhone with latest update of iOS 14.6 as
most of the iPhone users started to face the issue after iOS 14.6 and prior to
this MegSafe was charging the iPhone normally.
How to fix Quick battery drains with MagSafe Battery Pack : iPhone
Fix 1: Turn off optimized battery charging
On your
iPhone setting Try turning off “optimized battery charging”. This feature is designed to preserve the life of your
phone’s battery by avoiding excessive chargig, and iphone might be pausing the
charging until later, and it might reset that when you take the charger off and
then put it back on.
Fix 2 : Restart with the MagSafe is connected
This is more like a
workaround which seems to work most of the time. Try to do a normal reboot with
MegSafe connected to your iPhone. After the reboot it should start charging the
phone properly. Hopefully this will work, but the issue may start after some
time.
Fix 3: Battery Optimization
If your
iPhone battery is draining fast with the MagSafe charger during overnight then you should do below setting in iPhone to
reduce battery wastage in the night.
-
Turn off "Background App Refresh" in
the settings.
-
Turn off Siri completely.
Fix 4: Update the iPhone to new iOS
As
mentioned earlier this issue could be linked to bug in iOS 14.6 and you should
update the iPhone to latest iOS version available for your iPhone. A permamnet
fix for this could be expected from Apple only in the next updates of iOS 14/
iOS 15.
